MERIDEN —A man faces charges after police said he jumped out of a second story window to flee from officers following a reported assault on Tuesday.
Benjamin Giles, 22, of 25 Boswell St., Norwich, was charged Tuesday with third-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, breach of peace, interfering with an emergency call, and interfering with police.
Police responded to the apartments at 1049 Old Colony Road around 4:40 p.m. Tuesday after receiving an anonymous call saying a woman was yelling, Sgt. Darrin McKay said. Officers arriving at the apartment heard a woman yelling but noted she didn’t come to the door for several minutes. When the woman opened the door, she had a bruise on her face and blood on her clothing, McKay said.
Officers went into the apartment and saw a man go into a room. The man, later identified as Giles, jumped out of a second story window, but officers apprehended him. He was taken to Hartford Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The woman was evaluated by medical personnel at the scene and declined further treatment. The incident began after an apparent dispute over money, McKay said. Giles was given a $50,000 bond.
