MERIDEN — A city man faces drug and weapons charges after a high-speed pursuit that started in Waterbury.
Lukequann Bunch, 26, of 489 Center St., was charged Tuesday with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, criminal possession of a firearm, possession of a high capacity magazine, carrying a pistol without a permit, weapons in a motor vehicle, interfering with an officer, driving without a license, reckless driving and engaging in pursuit.
His bond was set at $250,000.
The incident began about 9:35 a.m. when a state police trooper tried to make a traffic stop on Interstate 84 in Waterbury. The driver of a white 2018 Nissan Altima sped up and swerved in and out of travel lanes at a high rate of speed before the trooper ended the pursuit for safety reasons, according to a state police press release. State police later learned the location of the vehicle and notified Meriden police.
Meriden police followed the Altima until it pulled in a driveway on Main Street. The driver, identified as Bunch, was taken into custody.
Police seized a Glock 19 9mm handgun with a high capacity magazine and 30 grams of marijuana, the release said.
