WEST HARTFORD — A Meriden man reported missing on Tuesday was found asleep in a West Hartford woman’s home after police said he broke into the house.

A Silver Alert for Kenneth Brownlee, 42, was issued on Tuesday by Meriden police. On Wednesday, a Fern Street resident returned home around 10:24 p.m. and saw a back door was forced open. The woman went inside, noticed a foul odor and found “a strange man asleep in her bed,” Captain Michael Perruccio said.

With the help of a K9 team, police were able to take Brownlee into custody without incident.

Brownlee was charged with first-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief and held on a $25,000 bond. He was arraigned in Hartford Superior Court on Thursday. A judge raised  bond to $50,000 and continued the case to March 17.
