MERIDEN — A local woman faces charges including DUI after hitting another vehicle Monday night and leaving the scene, police said.
Marian Martinez, 27, of 593 Gracey Ave., was arrested on Monday and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, evading responsibility, interfering with police, second-degree criminal mischief, following too close and failure to submit to prints.
On Monday around 9:14 p.m. police responded to the area of Center Street by Colony Street for a report of a motor vehicle accident. Police saw a Ford Explorer with damage to the side bumper and a broken tail light, the report said. The driver told police he was making a right turn onto Center Street and was struck from behind by a Lexus. The driver’s wife and two children were inside the vehicle at the time and there were no reported injuries.
Police found the Lexus in the area of Wilcox Avenue and Colony Street, the report said. The driver of the Ford identified the woman who was driving the Lexus as the person that struck his vehicle. Police noted a smell of alcohol coming from the car and the woman was slurring her words.
Martinez was taken into custody and brought to the police station. She refused to do the field sobriety test or the breath test, the report noted. She was eventually processed and released on a misdemeanor summons.
Her court date was not immediately available.
