MERIDEN — A delivery worker’s vehicle parked outside a building on South Broad Street and a home on Fourth Street were struck by gunshots early Tuesday.
Police Sgt. Darrin McKay said the delivery worker was outside 500 S. Broad St. when he heard around a half dozen “pops” shortly before 4 a.m. The building is home to the Record-Journal and The Money Source, a mortgage lending company.
When the worker returned to his vehicle, the driver’s side door would not open and he noticed what police later confirmed were two bullet holes in the door.
Police also found multiple bullet holes and shattered windows at 500 S. Broad St., damaging portions of the building housing both the Record-Journal and The Money Source. Spent shell casings were recovered in the roadway of South Broad Street (Route 5).
Residents of 138 Fourth St. reported hearing a loud noise outside at approximately 4:30 a.m. McKay said police found one bullet inside the home. No injuries were reported.
Police are investigating both incidents.
