MERIDEN — Police seized two firearms during a raid at a Randolph Avenue apartment early Wednesday morning.

Gary Coleman, 59, of 27 Randolph Ave., Apt. 2, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of ammunition and interfering with an officer. Coleman was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Thursday. A judge set bond at $75,000 and transferred the case to the New Haven court gun docket.

Members of the crime suppression unit, with assistance from the Meriden and Wallingford-Cheshire SWAT teams, served a search warrant at Coleman’s apartment around 5 a.m., police said. The search warrant is part of an investigation into a complaint of an armed robbery. Other details about the incident were not available.

Officers found Coleman on a couch and detained him and several other adults. Coleman gave several false names during the incident, police said.

A loaded Ruger .22 caliber revolver was found between the cushions of the couch and a single shot firearm, that did not appear to work, was next to Coleman’s clothing, police said.

Coleman has previous convictions for risk of injury to a minor, second-degree assault with a firearm, first-degree robbery, first-degree unlawful restraint and first-degree criminal mischief, police said.
