MERIDEN — A portion of Route 71 will be slowed while the Department of Transportation works on a milling and resurfacing project starting May 31.

The project will stretch for 1.74 miles, from the Interstate 691 overpass in Meriden to the north junction of Butler Street in Berlin, according to the DOT.

The project is scheduled to begin May 31 and continue through June 11. Crews are expected on scene from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Drivers can expect lane closures in the area, with traffic control personnel and signs directing traffic through the work zone.

Weather or unforeseen circumstances may delay the project’s schedule.
