Youth cheer squads impress at state competition

The North Haven Youth Football and Cheerleading league's D8 and D12 cheer competition squads turned in excellent work at the American Youth Cheerleading state championships, held Nov. 6 at the Floyd Little Arena in New Haven.

The D8 squad, comprised of cheerleaders age 5 to 8, earned the state crown in their division. Meanwhile, the D12 squad (age 9 to 12), placed second in their division, finishing less than one point behind the first-place team.

By placing in the top three, the North Haven squads secured a spot in the AYC New England championships.

The North Haven teams – nicknamed the Elite Eight and Tough Twelve – began training for the season in July, and practiced 2-to-3 days each week to get their routines down.
