Free, home energy assessments available to residents

The North Haven Clean Energy Task Force is working to help residents save energy and support the North Haven Congregational Church Food Pantry by encouraging participation in Energize Connecticut’s Home Energy Solutions SM (HES) program. Normally $149, this service is currently free if you sign up by Dec. 31.

Home Energy Solutions is a convenient, in-home service designed to help you save money on energy bills and make your home more comfortable year-round.

Through the end of the year, a $25 donation will be made to the North Haven Congregational Church Food Pantry for each resident that participates in HES. New England Conservation Services and CMC Energy Services, the United Illuminating-authorized energy specialists that are available to provide North Haven residents with HES services, will make the donations.

Contractors will come to your home or apartment and perform a thorough energy assessment to locate inefficiencies and pinpoint critical drafts and air leaks. Once identified, the specialists make on-the-spot energy improvements, which include caulking critical areas, installing weather stripping as needed, duct sealing and adding hot water pipe insulation. You may also receive LED light bulbs and water-saving aerators.

The specialists will review all of the tests they performed and will discuss additional opportunities to improve your home’s energy performance, such as replacing older appliances, heating and cooling equipment, and upgrades to insulation. They will provide you with a customized report that estimates the potential savings and costs, along with access to rebates, instant discounts and payment plans you may be eligible for.

The average home in Connecticut will save approximately $250 annually after the initial HES visit.

As the situation surrounding COVID-19 continues to evolve, contractors are taking extra measures to ensure the ongoing safety of their customers and employees in addition to continuing to follow regional and federal health and safety guidelines.
