NORTH HAVEN — Firefighters responded when a tractor trailer began leaking a chemical on Route 5 early Thursday afternoon.
Fire Chief Paul Januszewski said authorities determined the tractor trailer was leaking a a paint product that is considered a “minor” environmental issue. As a precaution the area near Defco Park Road was secured, but traffic was allowed to go through, Januszewski said. The spill was reported around 12:30 p.m.
A hazardous material disposal company responded and the road was fully re-opened around 2:30 p.m.
Heavy traffic delays were reported in the area. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection also responded.
