Thrift store finds a new home in North Haven

What began as a hobby for Jenn Clapp would blossom into a passion, then into a brick-and-mortar store, Mason Jar Vintage.

Previously located in Wallingford, Clapp moved her thrift shop to 85 State St. on Aug. 1, and began welcoming customers in September.

A North Haven resident, Clapp said she's in the business of selling memories.

“Everything in my store I have personally picked out. I have to like it to sell it," said Clapp, whose current shop is much larger than her former spot.

“My previous shop was so much smaller, and I could barely fit anything in,” she said. “I could only show just a small portion of what I had and was storing the rest of my things throughout my house, basement, and wherever I could find the room.”

Now, Clapp has the space to display all of her various treasures. Perusing Mason Jar Vintage, one will find clothes, accessories, toys, dishware, and much more.

Clapp said she surrounds herself with things she loves. A respiratory therapist by trade, the business owner describes Mason Jar Vintage as her happy job.

First Selectman Mike Freda is glad Clapp decided to set up shop in North Haven. “We always value small businesses opening up in our town, and the economic development strategy is to recruit and support the business,” he said. “All of these businesses benefit our community.”
