Soccer club volunteers immortalized

The North Haven Soccer Club honored a pair of longtime supporters by naming its Kickstart Program after them. Beginning this season, the town’s youngest soccer players will compete in the James and Brenda Howlett Kickstart Program.

Chris and Jenn Gaetano designed the program’s logo.

In announcing the new moniker, the NHSC stated, “Jim and Brenda Howlett have given many years … weekends … and hours of dedication and service to the North Haven Soccer Club.”

Over the years, the Howlett’s served in a number of roles with the club.

“Jim’s first love was coaching,” the NHSC said. “He spent many years teaching skills and tactics as well as cultivating a love of the sport in his athletes. His teams were taught to model great fundamentals, sportsmanship, and support for each other. Jim also served as our coaches director and our district representative. His knowledge of the game and patient demeanor helped to guide the North Haven Soccer Club during his time with it.”

Brenda Howlett was the director of the club’s Kickstart and clinic programs, managed scheduling and field maintenance and made sure coaches had the equipment they needed.

The NHSC release states, “From organizing the Friday Night Skills sessions to coordinating Memorial Day parades, Brenda was integral to the success of the North Haven Soccer Club.”
