The North Haven Conservation Commission will dedicate a tree in Pierpont Park (North Haven Green) in memory of residents who died from COVID-19 on Monday, June 7 at 5 p.m. First Selectman Mike Freda, joined by selectmen Bill Pieper and Sally Buemi, will place a bronze plaque to commemorate lives lost during this tragic time. Additionally, the NHCC will posthumously honor longtime member Sal Bonito. The public is invited to attend.
North Haven has lost many trees in recent years due to heavy storms and a tornado. The planting of this tree and two others on the green is part of a program initiated this spring by NHCC to plant a new generation of trees … one tree at a time.
Fran Notaro,A safe return
I wanted to share a heartwarming story about my dog, Javier, and my wonderful Ridge Road area neighbors.
On Saturday, April 17, about a month after I adopted Javier, a little white poodle from Mexico, he escaped my yard when a lawn service worker propped the gate open to my fence and forgot to close it. Javier, in panic mode, was spotted running top speed up and down Ridge Road and throughout the neighborhood between Ridge Road School, Windsor Road and Hartford Turnpike. I was terrified that he would be killed by a car as he ran in and out of these highly trafficked areas.
It took a neighborhood and North Haven Animal Control four hours tracking and finally locating the little rascal on Crestwood Drive.
So many neighbors, most I did not know, took time out of their day to help me. I am so grateful for everyone’s assistance finding my boy and returning him to me safe and sound.
