NORTH HAVEN — A 29-year-old New Haven woman was hospitalized with serious injuries following a crash involving two cars and a tractor trailer truck on Interstate 91 Monday afternoon.
The accident occurred near exit nine on I-91 north, shortly after noon on Monday.
State Police Troop I responded to the scene. State police said a Subaru Outback, driven by Amanda Castillo, 29 of New Haven, was traveling in the left lane of the roadway and had slowed for traffic, when the vehicle was struck behind by an Infiniti, driven by Eric H. Kwon, 44, also of New Haven.
Upon impact, the Outback spun out of control into the freeway's center and right lanes, where it was struck by Mack truck, which state police said had been driven by William Demers, 57, of Naugatuck.
The Infiniti meanwhile, veered off to the left side of the roadway, striking the guardrail in the median.
State police said Castillo was taken by ambulance to Yale-New Haven Hospital. No other injuries were reported.
The accident resulted in the closure of several travel lanes throughout most of the afternoon. A few minutes 4 p.m. Monday, the state Department of Transportation declared the accident scene had been cleared.
The accident investigation is ongoing. State police are asking anyone who witnessed it to call the Troop I barracks at (203) 393-4200.
