Connex, New Reach effort gives family a new lease on life

Connex Credit Union recently donated $1,000 and more than 600 new household items to New Reach—a non-profit organization helping build hopeful futures for those experiencing homelessness and poverty in Connecticut.

As part of its annual holiday drive and ConnexCares philanthropic program, Connex collected donations throughout December for a single mother of two that was recently removed from an unsafe domestic situation by New Reach.

To help this family re-establish itself, Connex encouraged members, staff and residents of the local community to bring basic household items such as kitchen, bathroom and bedroom supplies, as well as toys and gift cards, to any of its eight branches. The holiday drive was so successful, Connex not only supported the original family but was also able to contribute a variety of excess items to other families in need within the New Reach program.

“We cannot put into words how truly grateful we are for the overwhelming support we received and the selflessness of everyone involved,” said Carl Casper, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Connex Credit Union. “It truly warms our hearts to see a community band together around the true spirit of the holiday season and help change the lives of families in need.”

New Reach is committed to helping all children, families and individuals in Connecticut find a safe, secure and affordable home with the services and supports necessary to achieve a fulfilling, self-reliant life. By combining steady housing with innovative and progressive support, the organization inspires independence for those affected by homelessness and poverty.

Connex Credit Union is one of Connecticut’s largest credit unions serving more than 60,000 members at eight branches. Headquartered in North Haven, Connex is a full-service credit union that offers members a full range of financial services and products.
