So long state title? Thankfully, no

Some stunning news was shared recently via North Haven High School football social media accounts — the team was being stripped of its 2022 state championship.

The post reads: “It is our duty to announce that following an investigation into the alleged participation of an ineligible player the CIAC has ruled that we must forfeit all wins from last season and vacate our 2022 Class MM State Championship. We vehemently disagree with the decision and will seek an appeal.”

Attached to the post is a multi-page letter detailing the CIAC’s investigation and the football team’s punishment.

Well, Nighthawks fans can breathe a sigh of relief. The letter is dated, and was posted, on April 1 — April Fool’s Day.

Apparently, the North Haven football handle on social media has been known to pull off April Fool’s Day pranks. Still, many were tricked by the latest one.

“I almost had a heart attack,” one Facebook user wrote.

Another stated: “That’s a terrible joke!”
