Around Town: Patrolman remembered

Laffin remembered

North Haven patrolman Timothy Laffin Sr. died on May 29, 1980, 12 days after his police car left the roadway and struck a guard rail and a tree. Laffin was in pursuit of a motorcycle at the time. The suspect turned himself in the following day.

On Memorial Day, the North Haven Police Department remembered Laffin, stating on social media: "Today is an especially difficult day for North Haven PD. Not only do we reflect on those brave men and women of our armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting our nation, but we also mark 43 years since the death of Patrolman Timothy Laffin Sr.  Patrolman Laffin is the only line of duty death for North Haven PD, and while a majority of our current staff were not even born at the time of his death, yet alone got to work with him, we will never forget him, his legacy, and his family. Rest in Peace, Tim."

New role for Zambrano

At a special meeting of the North Haven Board of Selectmen in May, the board accepted the resignation of Robert Zambrano (R) from the Economic Development Commission, then approved of Zambrano's appointment to the Board of Finance. Both votes were 3-0. Zambrano replaces Nicholas DeChello on the Board of Finance.

NHFD adds to its ranks

The North Haven Fire Department celebrated three promotions and welcomed three recruits during a May 26 swearing-in ceremony. Jeffrey S. Obier was prompted to Deputy Chief of Administration, Lt. Jeffrey Haag was promoted to Captain and Ronald Prisco Jr. rose to Lieutenant. The department's new recruits are Sarah Pucci, Raul Cedeno and Ryan Finnegan.

"Congratulations to all of the members and their families on their accomplishments," the NHFD stated in a social media post.
