Laffin rememberedNorth Haven patrolman Timothy Laffin Sr. died on May 29, 1980, 12 days after his police car left the roadway and struck a guard rail and a tree. Laffin was in pursuit of a motorcycle at the time. The suspect turned himself in the following day.
On Memorial Day, the North Haven Police Department remembered Laffin, stating on social media: "Today is an especially difficult day for North Haven PD. Not only do we reflect on those brave men and women of our armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting our nation, but we also mark 43 years since the death of Patrolman Timothy Laffin Sr. Patrolman Laffin is the only line of duty death for North Haven PD, and while a majority of our current staff were not even born at the time of his death, yet alone got to work with him, we will never forget him, his legacy, and his family. Rest in Peace, Tim."
