State Rep. Dave Yaccarino (R-87), members of the North Haven community and student volunteers from Choate Rosemary Hall gathered Saturday, Dec. 4 to sort through hundreds of donated items for the Columbus House, a shelter for veterans in Wallingford.
Donations of new jackets and coats, thermals, hats, socks and gloves easily filled 40 large boxes.
“This annual winter clothing drive was once again a huge success,” Yaccarino stated. “Each year we collect hundreds of donations, but this year we collected more items than we ever did in the past. It was amazing to see so many donations coming in from our North Haven community. When I delivered all the donated items to Columbus House it filled the entire back of my pickup truck; which is going to help many people in need. This is a season of giving, and what better way to give back than to assist those who served our country and need some help.”
Yaccarino organized the winter clothing drive, which began in October, and the North Haven lawmaker wishes to thank the local officials, residents and businesses which supported the effort.
