Goodwill of Southern New England’s annual Fantasy of Lights at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven was the target of a break-in.
A news release from North Haven-based Goodwill of Southern New England states, “Overnight from Sunday to Monday the office trailer at the park was broken into and a safe containing cash and business-related items was stolen.”
This is year No. 27 for the Fantasy of Lights drive-through display. The 2021 fundraiser opened on Nov. 18 and wraps up Dec. 31.
“[T]he dazzling nighttime event supports our mission: to enhance employment, educational, social, and recreational opportunities for people with disabilities and other challenges,” Goodwill of Southern New England states on its website.
Police are investigating the Lighthouse Point Park break-in. Anyone with information about this incident should contact the New Haven Police Department.
“Countless volunteer hours and large efforts have gone into this event, which is our largest fundraiser each year,” stated H. Richard Borer, Jr., president of Goodwill of Southern New England. “We’re disappointed this happened, but it won’t deter us from our mission of helping people.”
