PLAINVILLE — Manafort Brothers Inc. recently donated 100 bikes to the Marine Reserve’s Toys for Tots program.

“Every child should be able to open a present on Christmas morning,” said Jesse Garuti, senior project manager for the New Britain Avenue based construction and demolition company.

The firm usually donates between 30 and 50 bikes to Toys for Tots around Christmas, but set its goal at 100 bikes in recognition of a century in operation. Garuti said Manafort’s employees “stepped up.”

“I think the Christmas spirit really ties into this. You can see the smiles on everyone’s faces as we line the bikes up,” he said.

The donations were loaded into the back of a couple trucks on Thursday morning.

“It’s a nice process, but it takes a lot of community help,” said James Morris, commandant of the Hardware City Detachment of the Marine Corps League. “There’s so many kids that need something for Christmas.”
