Robbery suspect taken into custody

On Thursday, Oct. 14, Plainville police say a man entered Liberty Bank on East Street around 12:30 p.m. and handed a note to a teller demanding cash. No weapon was displayed, and the man left with an undisclosed amount of money.

The East Street bank was hit in a similar fashion two days prior, and Plainville police believe the same man — Southington resident David Latino — is responsible for both robberies.

Investigators tracked the 49-year-old to a Newington motel, where he was taken into custody by Newington police on Friday, Oct. 15 on unrelated charges.

In an Oct. 15 press release, Plainville police said they were in the process of securing an arrest warrant for Latino “for the robbery of Liberty Bank” on Oct. 14.
