Plainville discus thrower breaks state record

This spring, Middle School of Plainville student Elliana Rexinger-McConnell, pictured, became the all-time leader for 13U girls in Connecticut with a discus throw of 89-feet, 8.75-inches. The record-setting toss, recorded on May 21 at Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School in Danvers, Mass., bested the previous state record by nearly three feet. Rexinger-McConnell has been throwing discus and shot put for two years, and recently took up javelin, hammer, and weight throw. The MSP seventh grader is currently training for the Junior Olympics, which will be held this summer in Des Moines, Iowa.
