Car fire in Southington extends to residential garage



SOUTHINGTON — A car fire outside a home on Kathryn Lane Tuesday afternoon spread to the garage, causing damage to the structure but no injuries.

At 2:51 p.m. on Tuesday, the fire department was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire beside a garage at 109 Kathryn Lane.

The first firefighters arrived approximately seven minutes after the initial dispatch. They found the vehicle fully engulfed with flames extending to the building.

Mutual aid units from Meriden and Bristol came to the scene, and New Britain, Plainville, and Cheshire provided town coverage.

Squad 1 and Squad 5, along with Engine 61, came to the scene to assist. Kathryn Lane is off Prospect Street in the Plantsville section of town.

Southington firefighters and mutual aid companies worked together, and the fire was quickly put out. No injuries were reported and there was only minor exterior fire damage.

The fire remains under investigation by the Southington fire marshal’s office.
