6 hospitalized after van strikes tree off Meriden-Waterbury Tpke. in Southington

SOUTHINGTON — Six people, including at least one child, were taken to the hospital after a van struck a tree off the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike late Friday afternoon.

The accident occurred about 4:30 p.m. in the area of Marion Avenue and Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike. A van left the road and crashed into a wooded area.

Fire officials said six people, including at least one child, were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital. The extent of their injuries was not immediately clear.

Authorities closed a section of the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike and police were seen cordoning the area off with yellow tape.
