SOUTHINGTON — A Wallingford woman faces DUI charges after a one-car crash in November injured a 2-year-old child in her car.
The child and an adult passenger were taken to the hospital for reported minor injuries.
Amy Velush, 36, of Wallingford, was charged Monday with driving under the influence, risk of injury to a minor, reckless driving, failure to drive in the proper lane and possession of drug paraphernalia.
On Nov. 9, a Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Velush was heading west on Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike when it crossed the double yellow line, went off the road and struck a tree, said police spokesman Lt. Stephen Elliott. The crash occurred near the Southington Drive-in.
Police found a syringe inside the vehicle. The investigation showed Velush was under the influence of narcotics at the time she was driving, Elliott said.
Velush posted $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on May 18.
