SOUTHINGTON — Police are looking for witnesses after a motor vehicle accident on Interstate 84 left one dead Wednesday afternoon.
The incident involved two vehicles — a Tesla Model 3 and a Ford F250 — and occurred west of exit 30 on I-84 east at about 4:30 p.m., according to police.
Police said the involved Ford was traveling in the leftmost lane of the three lane highway before the Tesla crossed over from the right lane to the center and continued to drift left until it collided with the Ford vehicle. The Ford operator then lost control of the truck, causing it to enter a grassy median roll over and make contact with a metal guardrail, according to police.
Police said the Tesla came to a controlled stop on the right shoulder of the highway after the crash.
The Ford operator sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene while the Tesla operator and a passenger were unharmed, according to police.
Police are still investigating the cause of the crash and are encouraging witnesses to contact either michael.dean@ct.gov via email or call 860-534-1089.
