Fire damages second-floor apartment on West Main Street in Plantsville

SOUTHINGTON — A second-floor apartment on West Main Street was damaged in a fire Sunday morning.

A resident of the apartment and a firefighter were treated for injuries at the hospital and released Sunday afternoon. The fire was reported at 35 West Main St. at around 8 a.m.

“There was a lot of smoke and a lot of damage done already when we arrived,” Assistant Fire Chief Eric Heath said. “The working fire took us over an hour to control and by then (the apartment) was deemed inhabitable.”

The fire was fully extinguished by noon. The cause is under investigation, Heath said.
