Things to know in the upcoming week include consideration of Sheehan High School as a future site of the Parks & Recreation Department in Wallingford and the public’s opportunity to weigh in on plans for a new Meriden Senior Center.
In Southington, the Planning & Zoning Commission will review final plans for the new public library.

1.Wallingford Parks & Rec considers Sheehan as location The Wallingford Parks and Recreation Commission will hold its quarterly meeting Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the room 4 conference room at 6 Fairfield Blvd. The commission will discuss the proposed merger of the town’s two high schools and the possibility of relocating Parks and Recreation offices to Sheehan High School should that happen. It also will discuss organizing parks cleanups and developing a Parks and Recreation Service recognition process.
2.Input sought on new Meriden senior center Meriden officials invite residents to provide input as they develop plans for a new senior center. Representatives from design consultant EDM Architecture & Engineering will be on site at the Max E. Muravnick Meriden Senior Center on Monday, April 3 and Wednesday, April 5 to receive input and answer questions. Firm representatives will be on site from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on both days.
3.Gallery 53, Maloney’s Pub ARPA requests in Meriden The Meriden City Council will meet in person Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers. According to a posted meeting agenda, the council is scheduled to take up American Rescue Plan Act funding requests for Gallery 53 and Maloney’s Publick House.
4.New athletic director position in Meriden The Meriden Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the board’s meeting room at 22 Liberty St. According to a posted meeting agenda, the board will take action on a series of items, including the school district’s 2023-2024 budget estimates, a student enrollment study, proposal to expand the district’s STAR Classroom special education program and a request to establish a new District Athletic Director position.
5.Final plans for new Southington library Southington planners will take up a proposal for a new public library on Main Street during their meeting Tuesday.
The town has finalized plans for a new library building that’ll be on the same site as the exisiting library. Town leaders plan to construct the new building and then demolish the old building, making way for more parking.
The Southington Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to meet Tuesday, Apri. 4 at 7 p.m. at the John Weichsel Municipal Center, 200 N. Main St.
6.Wallingford Board of Education The Wallingford Board of Education will hold a special meeting Monday at 6 p.m. on Google Meet. 7.Budget workshops in Meriden City Budget workshops will continue Thursday night, with the Board of Education and Parks & Recreation Department scheduled to present their requests to the City Council’s finance committee.
The hybrid in-person and remote meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers. It can be accessed in real time online through the city’s website.
8.Planning for Memorial Day observances in Wallingford The Wallingford Veterans Memorial Committee will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in room 215 in Town Hall, when it will discuss plans for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday.
9.Joint meeting on municipal budget in Cheshire The Town Council will hold a joint meeting with the budget committee to discuss the proposed FY 2023-2024 Operating and Capital Budgets. The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, in Council Chambers, 84 South Main St.
