Meriden facing warnings of heavy rains, flash floods



According to the National Weather Service forecast, Meriden will see heavy rains and multiple hazardous effects until tonight.

There is an 80% chance of precipitation during the day with showers and possibly a thunderstorm, according to the National Weather Service. 

There is a flash flood warning for central New Haven County in southern Connecticut until 11:15 a.m.

A flood watch remains in effect until tonight. The heavy rainfall may result in rainfall rates up to 1 to 2 inches per hour at times.  

The excessive rainfall may result in flooding or poor drainage in urban areas, storm drains, highways, streets, underpasses, small creeks, streams and rivers, and ditches may become clogged with debris.

There is a 40% chance of precipitation during the evening with showers and possible thunderstorms. Skies will be cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy. Expect a light and variable wind becoming north around 6 mph after midnight.

The National Weather Service suggests that you be sure to monitor forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. If you encounter flooded roads, turn around.
