Four in-state Latino events to attend

Here are just some of the upcoming events taking place locally and around the state with a focus on Latino culture and entertainment.

1. SCOW presents festival of Christmas carols

WALLINGFORD — Students from the Spanish Community of Wallingford School of Music will perform Christmas carols from Spain and Mexico on Tuesday, Dec. 6 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

After a two-year hiatus, the annual community tradition will take place at the Wallingford Public Library, 200 North Main St. in the community room. 

Guests can register for this free event on the Wallingford Public Library website. The registration will close on the day of the event at 6:30 p.m. To attend virtually, on your computer or mobile device, there is a Zoom link.

2. Salsa Night featuring Orquesta La Yunqueña

HARTFORD — Salsa Warriors Radio is hosting a post-Thanksgiving salsa party at La Casona on 681 Wethersfield Ave. on Saturday, Nov. 26, from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The night will include live music from Connecticut salsa band Orquesta La Yunqueña along with New York City lead vocalist Luisto Renta. DJ Harry T. from Salsa Warriors Radio will take part of the entertainment.

Looking to refine your salsa skills? The event will also be holding free salsa lesson at 9:30 p.m. Food will be available to purchase at the event. General admission for the salsa party  is $20, with no seat guarantee, however, it is $25 to reserve a table.

3. Lady Tatiana’s Latin Night 

HARTFORD — Hartford's LGBTQ bar, restaurant and cabaret space, Chez Est, will be hosting their monthly Lady Tatiana’s Latin Night on Friday, Dec. 2, from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The show will feature live drag  performances from three Latinx drag queens — Lady Tatiana, La Nece Williams and Yalehxia Priestly. The event comes monthly on the first Friday of every month. The kitchen closes at 9 p.m.

4. Salsa Holiday Party

ANSONIA  — Salsa Warrior Radio will be hosting a Salsa Holiday Party at the Chifrijo Restaurant Banquet Hall at 311 Main St. on Saturday, Dec. 10,  from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The banquet hall is one block away from the restaurant. DJ Harry T. will be in attendance. The event organizers ask that you bring your own beer, drink mixers will be provided. Appetizers will be available to purchase at the event. A free salsa lesson will also be available at the event with guest instructor Edward Trueheart. Admission is $20 per person and free parking is available.
