Meriden residents started the new decade with a roughly 3-hour power outage on the evening of Jan. 1, with more than 4,000 electric customers impacted.
Meriden police marked the second anniversary of the death of David Paul. A case of a newborn found frozen to death on a cold, January day. The case would haunt the department for the next 30 years. Just this year they identified the mother and got some of the answers they sought for years.
The Price Rite grocery store in Lincoln Plaza on West Main Street prepared to close in Meriden, a victim of the newer, bigger supermarkets opening in town including a Shop Rite at Townline Square plaza.
Residents made their emotion opinions known during a 4-hour public hearing on a proposal to merge the World War II Veterans’ Memorial and Meriden-Wallingford hospitals in Meriden.
In Wallingford, Mayor William W. Dickinson Jr. was sworn in for his fourth term as mayor, marking a streak of election victories that would continue through the present.
