Search for Bailey’s successor is underway

The Middlefield Board of Selectmen held a meeting on Friday, Dec. 10, for the purpose of discussing the succession plan for the first selectmen position. Given the untimely and unexpected death of First Selectman Edward P. Bailey, the selectmen reviewed the requirements for appointing the successor.

According to the town charter, the applicant must be an elector (registered voter in the Town of Middlefield/Rockfall). In addition, due to the fact that Edward Bailey was registered as an unaffiliated voter, the applicants must also be registered as an unaffiliated voter. This position must be filled within 30 days of the vacancy and will be appointed by the Board of Selectman. The term of the appointment will be for the unexpired balance of his term which will be through November, 2023.

The deadline to submit an application is Tuesday, Dec. 28. Interested applicants may submit a resume to Judi Rand, Executive Assistant, at jrand@middlefieldct.org or P.O. Box 179, Middlefield, CT 06455.
