Durham recreation is embracing the newly arrived fall season by bringing the community together for some autumnal fun.

Coming right up, residents can look forward to several events. A S’mores Family Night is set for Friday, Oct. 18, 4 to 7 p.m., at Allyn Brook Park; the Fall Farmers Market is scheduled for Thursdays, Oct. 10, 17 and 24; and a Scarecrow Building Contest will take place Saturday, Oct. 12, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the town green.

“I think it's important to have events like this so residents can meet others in our town to not only create new friendships, but also bring old friends together out of our busy, everyday lives,” said Jon Scagnelli, market master of the farmers market.

First Selectman Laura Francis said events like the ones on tap make Durham a place where people want to raise families.

“The creative aspect is attracting people of all ages and finding activities that are appealing to them,” she said. “We welcome feedback and are looking to explore more programming.”
