Church marks 100th year

Saint Sebastian's Church in Middletown celebrated its 100th anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 19 with a High Mass in honor of its patron saint.

The celebrants were Fr. James Thaikoottathil and Fr. Raymond Introvigne, a former assistant pastor at the church.

At the conclusion of the Mass a scaled-down version of the "I Nuri Run" took place. Several "I Nuri" entered the church saying "E Chiamamulu Paisanu! Primu Diu E Sammastianu!,” and the whole congregation joined in.

Middlefield resident Gina Fredericks played a role in the Mass. She has been the organist at the church for decades.

Fredericks started right before Easter in 1965 when the usual church organist became ill. Fredericks was asked to play, and has been at the keys ever since.
