Drug take back pulls in 109 pounds of unused medications

Durham Middlefield Local Wellness Coalition and the Resident State Troopers office of Middlefield wish to thank everyone who dropped off prescription drugs on National Drug Take Back Day, Oct. 26.

The Middlefield take back collected 109 pounds of unused medications. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day events have been extremely successful not only in getting unused drugs out of homes, but also in raising awareness of their link to addiction and overdose deaths.

The public has embraced the opportunity these events provide to remove medicines in the home that are unused and highly susceptible to misuse, abuse and theft.

If you have medications that need to be disposed of before the next take back day, which will take place in the spring, Durham Middlefield Local Wellness Coalition has free medication disposal bags available. Email Prevention Coordinator Dena Miccinello at dmiccinello@dmyfs.org or call 860-349-0258.
