WALLINGFORD — Nurse practitioner at Hartford Healthcare and standup comedian Angel Rentas will host a comedy show fundraiser to support the Connecticut Food Bank and Foodshare CT Friday night the Library Wine Bar and Bistro.

“I’m using my platform as a healthcare worker and comedian to help tackle a worthy cause. I'm hoping to bring attention to the continuing food shortage due to the pandemic and rising prices,” Rentas said.

Rentas hopes to continue to do shows all over Connecticut and raise as much money as possible.

“I have been pretty lucky. I work in healthcare and I think the more you give to people the better you feel. You can't go wrong helping someone,” Rentas said.

In addition to Rentas, the lineup for the show includes Don Kinsley, Joe Gerics and Scott Higgans.

Kinsley, who works in pharmaceuticals for Jonhson & Johnson, has been doing comedy for two years.

“I’ve been working with Angel for a couple of years and we have the same philosophy as to why not bring people together, make them laugh and contribute to our society as well. We have comedians here that are willing to give up their time. It is easy for us to do because of the year we had, we are able to bring our families together and have good laughs and raise money at the same time,” Kinsley said.

Rentas previously fundraised for scholarships and for bookbags for the Hartford school system.

“I think the thing about this is people say any minute at any time you can end up in that particular moment. You see someone holding up a sign. At the end of the day, you have to trust you are helping people. You have to help your brother out,” Rentas said.

Tickets can be purchased at 860-604-8190. Tickets are $15 a person, a third of the profits will go to the CT Food Bank and Food share. The show at the Library Wine Bar and Bistro, 60 N. Main St., Wallingford, starts at 8 p.m.
