Wallingford man hospitalized after being struck by vehicle while crossing South Colony Road

WALLINGFORD — A pedestrian suffered a serious head injury when he was struck by a car while crossing South Colony Road on Saturday.

Police say Thomas Voytek, 58, of Wallingford, was struck by a Honda Civic being driven by Jose Diaz, 29, of Meriden, at around 5:10 p.m., according to a police press release.  Voytek’s head struck the windshield and he was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Voytek was running slowly across the road near the pedestrian crosswalk, however had not used the signal to interrupt traffic before crossing, the press release said. Diaz was driving south on South Colony Road (Route 5) and was approaching a green light at the intersection with Quinnipiac Street and Center Street when he struck Voytek. He sustained a minor hand injury, but declined treatment.
