Police: Man struck by vehicle Friday in Wallingford suffered serious injuries

WALLINGFORD — Police said a local man struck by a vehicle Friday on Route 5 suffered severe injuries.

Thomas Butler, 58, of Wallingford, was struck around 5:45 a.m. Friday by a 2002 Buick Century driven by Carlos Ortiz, 32, also of Wallingford. The incident occurred in the area of Church Street, near Most Holy Trinity Church.

Ortiz has not been charged or cited.

Butler was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for injuries that included shattered shinbones, cervical neck fractures and a fractured elbow, police traffic division head Lt. Anthony DeMaio said in a statement.

The incident is still under investigation, DeMaio said.
