Police: Meriden man bit officer after causing disturbance at Wallingford car dealership

WALLINGFORD — A Meriden man charged with assaulting two officers earlier this week at an auto business bit an officer’s arm, breaking the skin, according to a police report.

Ulpiano Nieves, 30, of 91 Britannia St., Meriden, was charged Wednesday with two counts of assault on an officer and other lesser charges.

The incident at Cerrito’s Auto Sales, 280 N. Colony Road, started when employees asked Nieves, who appeared intoxicated, to sit down and he began heckling other customers and leaned on a woman, the report said. After an employee told Nieves not to lean on her vehicle, he threw a water bottle at her.

When police attempted to take Nieves into custody, he bit an officer on the arm, breaking the skin, the report said. He also kicked at officers when they attempted to put him in a cruiser. During the struggle, Nieves broke one officer’s taser.

Nieves was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Thursday. The judge set bond at $50,000 and continued the case to March 25.
