WALLINGFORD — Police removed a barricaded man from a Chimney Hill Road home Monday.

Police responded to the area of 141 Chimney Hill Road just before 11 a.m. for a welfare check on a 27-year-old, emotionally disturbed man, Lt. Cheryl Bradley said. Police determined the man, who was on the third floor of the home, barricaded the entry to the second floor.

Police broke through the barrier and two officers with specialized training established communication with the man. Bradley said the man refused to come down.

No one else was barricaded inside the home and neighboring homes were not evacuated. Platt Street was closed from Chimney Hill Road to Brockett Road during the incident. The school bus company was notified about the road closure.

Members of the Wallingford-Cheshire Emergency Services Unit and hostage negotiators were called in. After several hours without result, members of the ESU were able to make entry into the home and removed the man without incident.

The man was taken to a hospital. He will not face criminal charges. Police cleared the scene around 4:15 p.m.
