WALLINGFORD — A tractor-trailer driver faces charges including DUI after police said he crashed into guardrails while driving on Interstate 91 Wednesday night.
Dennis Goncalves Medeiros, 45, of 25 Haven St., New Haven, was charged with driving under the influence, risk of injury to a minor, first-degree reckless endangerment and failure to maintain lane.
Police responded to the area of I-91 north by exit 13 around 7 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a collision. An investigation showed that the flatbed tractor-trailer Medeiros was driving north on the highway struck a guard rail near the median and then a guard rail on right shoulder, according to a police report. The collision caused the metal beams the truck was carrying to spill onto the highway.
The highway was shut down in the area of the crash for about two hours, causing significant delays. There was a juvenile passenger in the tractor-trailer with Medeiros. No injuries were reported.
Police administered field sobriety tests, which Medeiros didn’t perform to standard, the report said. He was placed under arrest and later released on $1,500 bond. Medeiros is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Nov. 5.
