WALLINGFORD — The Board of Education may choose the new principal of Highland Elementary School during a special meeting Monday.
Current Principal Victoria Reed is retiring at the end of the school year. Her last day is slated for June 30.
The board met Tuesday in a remote special meeting to discuss candidates for the administrative position. No candidate names were disclosed.
Members met in an executive session, which is not open to the public. Under state law, municipal boards and agencies are allowed to meet behind closed doors about personnel matters.
After reconvening in public, the board voted unanimously to table the appointment of a candidate for Highland principal until the board’s next special meeting, scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Monday.
In the meantime, the school district is conducting background and reference checks, Secretary to the Superintendent Linda Lavelle said Thursday on behalf of Superintendent Salvatore Menzo.
Reed has been principal of the K-2 school since 2001. She oversaw the transition in 2010 from a K-5 school to a sister school partnership, with Mary G. Fritz School in Yalesville taking on grades 3-5.
