WALLINGFORD — The Square Foot Theater company is slated to unveil a new bar and lounge this weekend.
Executive Director and Co-founder Jared Andrew Brown said the Square Foot Tavern will open this weekend following the production “Ghost The Musical.” The tavern will allow guests and performers to socialize, drink, and eat after shows.
“…our patrons and cast members were lingering after the show,” Brown said. “We really didn’t want to kick them out.”
The 500-square-foot bar and lounge will have a “living room atmosphere” and guests will be allowed to bring their own food and drinks, Brown said. He expects some will play board games.
“I think it’s something that is needed. We’re not a sports bar, we’re a musical theater lounge,” Brown said.
Economic Development Specialist Tim Ryan said the idea is unique.
“It’s a small business, entertainment venue and they’re expanding,” Ryan said. “It’s unlike anything else.”
Brown said there will be scheduled karaoke and comedy nights and drag shows on Sunday night. There will also be opportunities in the future for community groups and organizations to reserve the space for private and public events.
