Wallingford day care owner charged with child abuse

WALLINGFORD — A daycare owner and her boyfriend were arrested and charged on Tuesday after allegations of child abuse were brought to the attention of the state Department of Children and Families in August.

Brenda L. Fornal, 61, of 60 Ridgetop Road, was charged with nine counts of risk of injury to a child, voyeurism with malice, third-degree assault, second-degree threatening and fourth-degree sexual assault.

She is being held on $125,000 bond.

Grant Freer, 66, of 667 Whitney Ave., Hamden, was charged with conspiracy to commit risk of injury to a child. He will be held on $1,000 bond.

Wallingford Police developed probable cause to suspect the couple subjected nine children to verbal and physical abuse at Fornal’s home day care.

Both Fornal and Freer are scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Dec. 23. They could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
