WALLINGFORD — A 29-year-old Meriden woman faces drunk driving charges after she drove her car off the roadway, onto a sidewalk and through a lamppost — pulling it from the ground — near Wallace Park, Tuesday night.

The crash occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Quinnipiac and Ward streets.

Kristan Anziano, 29, of Meriden, was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to drive in the proper lane, according to police.

The vehicle Anziano drove came to a stop in the grass along Wallace Park about 100 feet away from the light pole. Its front fender was crumpled in the middle where it had struck the pole. The vehicle’s airbag did not appear to have deployed as a result of the impact.

Anziano did not appear to have suffered any injuries, police said.
