Meriden woman killed in Wallingford crash Tuesday evening

WALLINGFORD — A Meriden woman was killed in a car crash on Route 68 Tuesday evening. 

The crash occurred around 7:40 p.m. in the area of Route 68 and North Main Street Extension. Karen Gabriel, 58, of Meriden, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. 

Police said the other driver, Nicholas Fairchild, 25, of Madison, was transported to a hospital with injuries. A passenger in his Jeep Wrangler was not injured.

Three other passengers in Gabriel’s car, a Honda CR-V, were transported to hospitals, police said.  

Police said the crash happened as Fairchild was traveling east on Route 68 and Gabriel was heading north on North Main Street Extension.  

Both roads were closed for about five and a half hours while police investigated. 

The accident remains under investigation by the Police Department Traffic Division. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Anthony Baur at 203-294-2817.
