Sauced in more than one way
If you’re a fan of craft beers, you’ve probably heard of Kinsmen Brewing Co. in Southington. Maybe you’ve visited and noticed the kitchen in the back? Sauced is a venture that partners directly with the brewery to bring pizza and other “bar foods” to customers in-house. The concept of food and drinks in one place isn’t exactly a new idea — but a dedicated kitchen is a bit different than what other craft breweries in New England have been doing.
‘The most fun I’ve ever had at a bar’
That was a real quote from a repeat customer at the new GameCraft Arcade and Bar in Southington that opened last week. It’s not too surprising that a bar with over 30 video games — which combine some serious nostalgia with fun — would get this type of response, especially when you throw in hyper-local craft beers. Even the cocktails are video-game inspired.
Wine in winter
Fourteen wineries across the state are participating in this year’s Winter Wine Trail passport program, which started Saturday. Two are close by in Wallingford and say that winter is a beautiful time to visit with friends and family. If you visit all 14 by April 11, you could win some major prizes.
A dietitian available right where you buy food
Feeling a little overwhelmed by eating healthier? Not sure where to start? Marisa McCoy, a dietitian with ShopRite, is available to customers as a resource to help find food products to add to your diet and reach goals like losing weight or managing diabetes.
I stopped by Amore Apizza in Wallingford to finally get a taste of their Buffaque Pizza — a double-decker with buffalo chicken for a base and barbeque chicken toppings topping it off. Biggest surprise: how much it weighed!
