CHESHIRE — The Cheshire girls swimming team shuffled its regular lineup for Friday’s virtual meet with Hamden. Then the Rams dealt out their 71st straight dual-meet victory.
Cheshire topped the Green Dragons 99-74 in a SCC meet that went exhibition after the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Rams (4-0) had the fast times in the relays, and Avery Potyrala and Emma Glover swam on all three of them.
The duo teamed with Julia Barto and Kaitlyn Grove on the 200-yard medley (1:55.64) and with Julia Barto and Sophie Murphy on the 200 free relay (1:42.04). Julianna Tyler and Ava Breton were aboard in the 400 free (3:54.51).
Individually, Potyrala took the 100 freestyle (55.82).
Murphy, the State Open freestyle sprint champ, shifted to the 200 individual medley (2:11.17) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.95) and had the fast times in both races.
Also for Cheshire, Natalie DeMatteo captured diving (227.85), Nora Bergstrom won the 100 butterfly (1:03.47) and Mary Barto took the the 500 freestyle (5:32.85).Girls volleyball
Wilcox Tech 3, Capital Prep 0: Three area volleyball teams have reached the midway point of the season undefeated. One of them is Wilcox Tech.
The Indians swept the Trailblazers 25-13, 25-4, 25-10 in Hartford on Friday to join Maloney and Cheshire at 6-0.
R-J Athlete of the Week nominee Sacaria Cooper had another strong outing for Wilcox with six kills, three aces and three blocks.
Na’Sya Burkes found the floor with eight aces. Montgomery Rios racked up four assists and four aces.
Platt 3, Bulkeley 0: The Panthers made the midseason turn at 5-1 with the CCC sweep of the Bulldogs in Meriden on Friday night. Game scores were 25-9, 25-11 and 25-12.
Seventeen of those points came single-handedly on service aces by Emily Hart. The sophomore setter also dished 14 assists.
Eva Dudley connected for five kills for the Panthers. Jazmir Hudson had four kills to go along with four aces.
