CHESHIRE — The Cheshire girls swimming and diving program was recently voted Connecticut’s top high school dynasty in the CIAC Sports Dynasty Tournament.
The Rams continue to build on the legend.
With a 92-83 win on Senior Day at Cheshire Community Pool, Cheshire recorded its 70th consecutive victory in its current dual-meet streak.
The meet was virtual and went on exhibition after the Rams secured victory with the 500-yard freestyle.
Bella Tejeda and Nora Bergstrom were double-winners for Cheshire. Tejeda took the 200 individual medley (2:15.63) and 100 butterfly (1:00.71). Bergstrom bagged the the 200 freestyle (1:57.45) and 500 free (5:11.67).
Sophie Murphy and Julianna Tyler delivered the sprints. Murphy won the 50 free in 24.44, Tyler the 100 in 57.44.
Murphy also teamed with Emma Glover, Mary Barto and Ava Breton on the first-place 200 medley relay (1:54.47).
Natalie DeMatteo’s score of 217.30 was tops in diving.
Coach Dave Modzelewski’s team is now 3-0 on the season.
Cheshire holds the national record for consecutive dual-meet victories in high school girls swimming with the 281 it accrued under coach Ed Aston between 1986 and 2011.
Sheehan 107, West Haven 79: The Titans (1-1) captured this SCC virtual meet behind double-winners Amy Bui, Leila Sofiane and Katie Webb.
Bui swept the sprints with times of 27.81 in the 50 freestyle and 1:03.79 in the 100.
Sofiane salted away the 200 IM (2:24.10) and 100 butterfly (1:04.08), while Webb brought home the 200 freestyle (2:12.47) and 100 breaststroke (1:16.69).
Webb also teamed with Bui, Hannah Nagy and Rylee Sweet on the first-place 200 medley relay (1:58.94).
Nagy went on to win the 100 backstroke (1:10.50). Savannah Bauman’s recorded a score of 163.27 to capture diving.Boys soccer
Newington 7, Platt 1: Diego Caetano scored two goals to lead the Indians to the CCC win in Meriden.
Platt’s goal came on an own-goal.
Josiah McLeish (5) and Nick Link (4) combined on nine saves in net for the Panthers (1-4). Xander Ford had six for Newington (4-1).
Lyman Hall 0, Cheshire 0: The Trojans and Rams played to the SCC deadlock in Cheshire.
Dan Beverage was in net for Lyman Hall, Matt Pisani for Cheshire.
Both teams came away at 1-1-1.
