CHESHIRE — Trailing 1-0 to Farmington heading into the fourth quarter Thursday afternoon, the Cheshire field hockey team sprung for three goals to ring up a 3-1 non-conference victory at Alumni Field.
Sarah Goldstein scored one goal and set up another to lead the Rams.
Ava Houle and Lucy Dickenson also had goals for the home team. Tema Caplan contributed an assist.
The Rams remained unbeaten with the win. They’re 3-0.
CROSS COUNTRY
Wilcox Tech 22, Wolcott Tech 33: Luke Frommelt was the overall winner in 21:31 and Wilcox teammate Devon Diaz was runner-up in 21:46 to carry the Wildcats to the CTC dual meet decision at Hubbard Park.
Wilcox also got top-10 times from Michael Zacchia (4th, 23:35), Azari Yearwood (7th, 24:24) and Hunter Herbst (8th, 24:28) in improving to 2-2.
BOYS SOCCER
New Britain 3, Platt 2: Justin Basantes continued his early season tear for the Panthers, scoring both goals for the West Siders, but this CCC crossover at Veterans Stadium went the way of the host Golden Hurricanes.
Nikodem Kolc scored twice for New Britain (2-2). Abderrahman Arab added a single strike and goalie Tairan Habib totalled six saves.
For Platt (2-3), Angel Aguilar had an assist on one of the goals by Basantes. Goalie Gabriel Dushi secured 10 saves.
“Hard fought game on both sides; could have gone either way,” remarked Platt coach Martin Cheney. “New Britain's speed on the left won the day.”
Amity 4, Lyman Hall 1: Chris Jimenez scored for the Trojans in the SCC Hammonasset loss to the Spartans in Wallingford on Thursday.
Amity improved to 3-2. LH dipped to 1-2-1 with Notre Dame-West Haven coming to town on Saturday.
GIRLS SOCCER
Sheehan 4, Lauralton Hall 2: The Titans staked themselves to a 2-0 lead by halftime, then got a pair of second-half goals from Mia D’Angelo to fend off a surge by the host Crusaders in a SCC Oronoque slugfest in Milford.
Down 3-0 with 20 minutes to play, Lauranton Hall (0-4) scored two goals in a span of 6½ minutes to close to within 3-2. D’Angelo’s second goal, tallied with 1:45 to go, sealed it for Sheehan (3-1).
Stacey Casorla and Olivia Cassese got the Titans rolling with goals in the first half. Casorla, D’Angelo and Kate Frazier all had assists.
Meghan Keating was credited with five saves in net.
North Haven 2, Lyman Hall 0: Second-half goals by Faith Nicholas (60th minute) and Olivia Ranciato (71st) tilted a scoreless SCC Hammonasset battle North Haven’s way in Wallingford.
Alivia Garnett made three saves in net to keep the Trojans at bay. Tatum Callahan had four stops for LH (1-2).
Cheshire 2, Foran 1: Leah Pisani and Charlotte Dziura had the goals, while Ally Corris and Stella Tessier delivered the assists in this SCC Housatonic victory over the Lions in Cheshire.
The Rams remained unbeaten at 4-0-1. Foran fell to 1-2-1.
Wilcox Tech 4, Platt Tech 1: Angela Zandri had a hand — no, make that a foot — in all four goals in the Wildcats’ CTC win Thursday over the Panthers in Milford.
Zandri notched a hat trick and assisted on a goal by Eli Lopez. One of Zandri’s goals was assisted by Katreen Chen.
Goalie Azayla Yearwood had four saves behind a defense led by Jed Quintana. Celeste Cortes distributed with alacrity out of the center midfield.
With the victory, Wilcox evened its mark at 2-2.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Lyman Hall 3, Wilbur Cross 1: After opening with five losses, the Trojans chalked up their first win over the season with a 25-20, 28-30, 25-18, 25-14 SCC Housatonic verdict over the Governors in Wallingford.
Lyman Hall setter Casey Mordecai racked up 23 assists and five aces. Jorja Trocchio had seven aces to go along with 11 digs.
On offense, Sophia Laplante planted a team-high nine kills.
Farmington 3, Maloney 0: Emma Bacote collected 10 assists and four aces for the Spartans in the CCC crossover setback to the River Hawks.
Lyric Knight put down three kills. Ava Matias delivered four aces and two kills.
Maloney is now 2-4. Farmington is 5-1.
